The Wharton Institute of Science and Technology is mainly a provider of quality online education. WITS also provides face-to-face teaching in its central campus in Melbourne, Australia, and also via its many campuses worldwide with strategic partners for the GMA and CMA program. WITS has set up alliances with local providers to run classroom programs, and with organisations to run in-house seminars and workshops for employees requiring these modes of study. There are required residency requirements for some courses offered via WITS, especially those undertaken to satisfy professional association requirements.

However, a majority of WITS students do not undertake subjects that require formal, on-campus residence or classroom attendance. These students complete all coursework, reading, research and writing requirements through Directed Independent Study online programs either independently or (for an extra fee) under faculty guidance and supervision. Such students have no residency requirements to fulfil.
