The Wharton Institute of Science and Technology does not utilise the traditional time frame of semesters, quarters, and years for its internet-based programs. It is an open-entry, open-exit program, with all learning programs designed to typically be completed in an academic year of 12 months. Many programs are self-paced, providing any individual an opportunity to advance as slowly or quickly as his or her time and ability permits.

Most students have already completed various amounts of academic coursework and on-the-job learning experience, prior to entering The Wharton Institute of Science and Technology. Consequently, it is difficult to accurately predetermine the length of each student's study program.
